Venus - Jupiter - Moon Conjunction
from La Silla Observatory - Chile

Welcome to my WEB Site dedicated to the planetary conjunction between Venus, Jupiter and the Moon that occurred on April 23rd 1998. The idea behind this WEB site is to share with the astronomical community a set of pictures that I took at La Silla observatory, located at 2300 m of altitude, in the Chilean Andes.

To take the pictures I used a Canon FTb QL Camera with 35mm / 1:2, 50mm / 1:1.8, 85-210 mm / 1:4.5 and a Fujicolor Super HGV 400 ASA Film.

Enjoy the pictures and, as always ...
Have fun and clear skies !!!

Venus, Jupiter and the Moon rising over the Andes mountains. At the upper right of the Moon, a very unwelcome cloud is present.

A few seconds later, the side of the Moon illuminated by the Sun is rising.
The two last pictures are a little overexposed because the idea was to get a good image of the side of the Moon illuminated by the Earth.

This one is underexposed showing only Venus, Jupiter and the side of the Moon illuminated by the Earth.

Close up shoot of Venus, Jupiter and the Moon with a 80-230mm Telephoto lens.

During the morning twilight, the sky gets blue and the conjunction began to look very spectacular !!!

Important note:

This set of pictures were taken
thanks to a very good Swedish
