SIMBA Data Reduction Software

The SEST provides three software packages for the reduction of SIMBA data.Their usage is explained in the SEST Handbook and the SIMBA Observer's Handbook. Only LINUX operating systems (Kernel 2.2.x, libc 2.1, glibc 1.2.8 minimum) are supported. Apart from NIC, which is an Open Source development, we can only offer precompiled binary versions due to copyright regulations. To download, right click over the link and choose "Save as ..." to save the file to disk.

• SIMBAREAD
  This is the software, which converts the raw FITS files into reducable FITS files. It is capable of providing a quick look at the data, if GNUPLOT is installed on the system. Furthermore, it derives opacities from skydip measurements and creates a list of opacities, needed by MOPSI for opacity correction. Future versions will also comprise On-Off reduction facilities. It has been developed by Marcus Albrecht (Astronomisches Institut der Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany).
  
  Upgrade Information: The upgraded version of the 13th July includes an improved skynoise reduction for the on-off measurements. The version 12th August allows to manually apply RA/Dec offsets to the map coordinates. See new manual for more information.

• NIC
  This is the bolometer reduction software of the GILDAS package, which includes other programmes like CLASS, ASTRO and GREG. We provide both the basic GILDAS package and the necessary NIC upgrade for reducing SIMBA data. The latter has been developed by Albrecht Sievers (IRAM, Spain) and Roland Lemke (Astronomisches Institut der Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany).
  
  Upgrade Information: The upgraded version includes additional deconvolution routines to apply the correct filter function to each channel instead of a using a general filter function for channels.

• MOPSI
  This programme is our preferred reduction software. It has been upgraded to handle SIMBA fast scanning data. Please install GILDAS first, since MOPSI uses its graphical libraries for data display. Please read the installation instructions. MOPSI has been developed and is constantly upgraded by Robert Zylka (IRAM, Grenoble, France).
  
  Upgrade Information: The current version was cleaned from some bugs, e.g. naming convention of the source model and plotting problem with "plot sig"..
  
  New! This new MOPSI version provides a much more flexible application of the array parameters. They are no longer picked according to the observing period, but can be freely defined. MOPSI finds the correct parameter file by comparing the Julian Date of the observation with the entry in a parameter master file, which contains a list of all available parameter files together with a date. We provide all parameter files as a gzipped TAR file. See the installation instructions for further information or contact me.
